200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training

acac Downtown | 200 Hour Alliance Certified Teacher Training Course

Downtown acac offers a unique opportunity for students to deepen their practice and attain yoga teacher certification in two 9-day and 7-day intensive study programs.

You may choose to deepen your practice and understanding of yoga with the “Deepen Your Practice” module only or continue to develop you skills with the “Seat of the Teacher” module, which will qualify you to teach in clubs, studios, or any place yoga is offered.  This foundational, Yoga Alliance-recognized training is open to all practitioners, regardless of age, wanting to deepen their practice, heighten their body/mind awareness and share that experience on and off the mat.

Why choose acac yoga teacher training?

Breadth of Study: With offerings that include Restorative, Chair, Kundalini, Yin, Hatha, Vinyasa, and Ashtanga Yoga, acac offers one of the broadest and deepest yoga programs on the east coast. Our teacher training will reflect the program’s breadth by exploring all of these styles of Yoga, as well as the studying:
• Yoga as a physical and spiritual practice
• Yamas and Niyamas
• Prana, Pranayama, Mudra and Bandha
• The three main sacred texts: Bhagavad Gita, Yoga Sutras and Hatha Yoga Pradipika
• Kleshas or obstructions
• The subtle anatomy
• Mantra and Bhajan
• The Nine Main Approaches to Yoga (Hatha, Raja, Kriya, Jnana, Mantra, Yantra, Laya, Kundalini and Bhakti)

Experience: Every student will have access to all acac yoga classes and acac teachers will be featured as guest instructors to provide insight on their specialties. The lead teachers have over 1500 hours of training, over 50 years of practice experience, and over 25 years of teaching experience. Our anatomy teacher is a practicing nurse–and a certified yoga instructor. Our philosophy specialist is a Harvard PhD–and a practicing yogi.

Flexibility: The two part training organization allows you to focus your attention on the aspects of yoga as a practice and yoga as a profession–and to explore how these two aspects should feed one another. You will learn the names, benefits and proper alignment of postures; intelligent variations and benefits of props; the reasons behind how a good class is sequenced, as well as how to observe bodies, offer hands-on adjustments, and find your voice and build your confidence through practice teaching with constructive feedback.

The Lead Teachers:
Stephanie Morrell practiced psychotherapy in London for 15 years before returning to her native USA in 2007. She completed a 300-hr yoga teacher training with the Yoga Studies Institute, then her 500-hr and 800-hr yoga teacher training with Dharma Mittra in New York City. Stephanie practiced and taught at acac from 2007-2014, when she moved to Los Angeles, where she continues to teach yoga. She has returned to Charlottesville and acac regularly to practice and teach.
John Piller is the Mind Body Director for acac Downtown and teaches weekly classes in the Charlottesville clubs. He began practicing yoga in 1976 and has continued his studies since then. He is a devotee of Paramahansa Yogananda, has taken trainings and workshops with the foremost yogis in the country, including Chuck Miller, Tim Miller, Dharma Mittra, Alan Finger, Seane Corn and Shiva Rae. In addition to yoga, John has taught high school for four years and college for five years. He has his MFA in writing from UVa and has published dozens of poems, articles, and book reviews.

After completion of both modules, students will:

• Discover a deeper level of their own inner landscape and be able to apply Yogic philosophy and practice to their own self-growth, and help others achieve the same.
• Deepen their own practice and knowledge of asana.
• Confidently teach a group class in any setting and acquire the skills to teach all levels of students.
• Be able to create interesting and challenging sequences for all levels of students.
• Have the skills to teach one-on-one.
