Personal Training Client Story: Allison W
I train with Stephanie because she makes me feel good about myself. Am I fitter now? Probably. Stronger? Yes, measurably. Are any of these things obvious to the occasional bystander? Maybe not. But that doesn’t matter to me. Before I met Stephanie, I knew I should be able to feel better physically and mentally, could be stronger, and could have more fun in the process. I just wasn’t sure how to achieve those things.
I had lived in Charlottesville for three and a half years before I joined acac and started training with Stephanie. In that time, I had tried a variety of modes of exercise, with varying degrees of success but never any commitment. I did a month of Bikram yoga but hated jockeying for a spot in the studio and then sweating out my toxins in close proximity to a new stranger each time. I dropped in to different types of yoga classes elsewhere but that ended when one class turned out to be a dance variant (not for me, and I don’t need that kind of surprise). I tried to do cardio and weight-bearing exercises in the small gym located in my condo complex and considered myself lucky when I remembered at least once a month that I had set that goal for myself. And then came Stephanie. She is fierce. She is funny. She doesn’t set limits (or if she does, she doesn’t tell me what they are). She helps me be the best person I can be—the best person I’m willing to be. And the result is a better, stronger, fitter me.
