At acac, we want community members of all ages to feel comfortable enjoying an active, healthy lifestyle–including youth and young adults. In an effort to ensure the safety of and to provide the best possible health and fitness experience for acac members, youth policies are in place for individuals under the age of 18 using acac’s indoor facilities (acac Albemarle Square and acac Downtown).
The information below is a summary of our youth policies.
Under 10 Years of Age | Members under 10 are allowed only on the basketball court, in the indoor aquatic center, and on the track at acac during scheduled family time hours.
Ages 10 to 11, Youth Fit Participants | Members ages 10 to 11 can work out on select cardio machines at acac with the supervision of a parent or adult after completing a training session. Once they have completed the training session, Youth Fit members will be given an orange wristband that must be worn at all times while in the club, and can exercise on pieces of cardio equipment designated by an orange Youth Fit sticker.
Age 12 | Members age 12 can begin using all areas of the club including strength training equipment. However, it is very important for their safety that they be supervised at all times by a parent using the same area of the club. Before using the fitness equipment (weight training and cardio machines), 12-year-olds are required to complete one training session with a Fitness Specialist. Once they have completed the training session, 12-year-old members will be given a green wristband that must be worn at all times while in the club.
Ages 13 to 15 | After completing their training session with a Fitness Specialist, 13- to 15-year-olds will receive a blue wristband that must be worn at all times while in the club. Members this age with a blue wristband may use any area of the club at any time as long as they are adhering to acceptable standards of conduct.
Ages 16 and up | Members ages 16 and older are not required to complete a training session to work out in the club.
