Summer Yoga Workshop Series

Join us this summer for three yoga workshops lead by our yoga instructor, Iffet. They are open to all levels so everyone interested in yoga is encouraged to attend.

Introduction to Ayurveda, July 23 1:30-3:30

Ayurveda, the “sister-science” of Yoga, has been practiced in India for thousands of years. It employs herbs, diet, postures, breathing and mantra to help heal the body. Ayurveda classifies three body types, or “doshas”, to determine the right course of therapy for each individual. In this workshop, you will learn the history of Ayurveda, how it relates to Yoga, and some basics of determining your body type.

Introduction to Mantra Yoga and Sanskrit, August 6 1:30-3:30

Mantra yoga is a very powerful practice that is integral to the practice of Yoga. Based on sound vibration, it can help heal both body and mind. Traditionally, people have practiced mantra along with asana (postures) to focus the mind and go deeper into the energetic qualities of the postures. In this workshop, we will explore the Sanskrit “Varna Mala”, or alphabet, learning the basics of the sounds and how the effect the body and mind. We will also look into some of the most common yoga poses and learn their names in Sanskrit. This workshop is open to all levels of practice.

Restorative Yoga, August 20 1:30-3:30

In this workshop, participants will discover how a Restorative Yoga practice can enhance their current Hatha yoga practice, how it differs from other forms of yoga, and how it can be employed to help heal the body from injury or surgery, and the possibilities of healing the mind from trauma. Open to all levels of practice. Please let the instructor know of recent injury or surgery before the workshop. All props will be provided, although participants are encouraged to bring their own mat and a towel.

The cost is $25 per workshop for members, $35 for non-members, or attend all three for just $60 for members & $90 for non-members.
