Try Hard Things

Disclaimer: before you say “I could never do that”: I am NOT flexible by nature.

I could neverrrr touch my toes as a child. It’s only been within the last year or so that I can touch my toes consistently, and some days it’s still nearly impossible.

Pigeon pose used to be one of those poses in a yoga class where I silently begged the instructor to move on to the next one the whole time. My knees and hips screammmed the whole time. It was one of those things I was so bad at that I wasn’t even motivated to try to get better. Getting from arms straight to on my forearms was a once in a blue moon occurrence and veryyyyy uncomfortable.

Now of course, there are still improvements to make: I could get deeper on the left side, there’s still a long way to go with hamstring and calf mobility in my downward dog, etc.

BUT the fact that I can get down to lying nearly flat in pigeon pose feels like an absolute miracle. I ENJOY the pose now. I enjoy stretching and flexibility; it doesn’t take a yoga class to force me to work on these things consistently.

I’ve come a long way and plenty more to go.

Go try something new or difficult this weekend!
