On November 4th, 1914 Irving Taylor was born, but today he is happy to celebrate his 100th birthday.
Taylor planned on walking into the ACAC Wellness Center at Albemarle Square for his regular work out. Instead, he was greeted with cake and hugs from people who admire his legacy.
“I guess because of this huge demonstration, there’s no way that I can forget that I’m 100 years old,” says Taylor.
Taylor was a physicist with nine patents. He was also an electrical engineer, who served in World War II, but his dedication in the gym is what turns heads nowadays.
“He’s just a bright spot in our day and very much a role model for people,” says Kelly Kyriacopoulos, prep director and member coordinator for ACAC. “The thing I love most about Irving being here is that he is a perfect example for people that you don’t have to do a lot and you don’t have to do it for a long period of time, but simply by moving and doing something every day you can live and have a great quality of life like he has.”
Taylor works out at ACAC six days a week and he’s been doing his daily routine for the past 15 years.
“I work out every day except Sunday,” says Taylor. “I think working out here has really helped me.”
Today’s festivities caught him off guard when he first walked in, but he soon blew out the candles on his cake and hit the weights.
“My birthday wish is to last a couple of more years,” laughs Taylor.
Believe it or not, Irving Taylor isn’t the only Centenarian at ACAC. There is another member who is over the age of 100 who also works out regularly.
They are both living proof that a healthy lifestyle has no age limit.
