What is Pilates?
The Pilates method is a physical fitness program developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates believed mental and physical health are essential to one another. His method uses the mind to control the muscles by focusing on the core postural muscles to keep the body balanced and strong.
What is the Reformer?
The Reformer is a piece of equipment that utilizes a cushioned mat, or carriage, with weighted cables to provide resistance. The reformer offers a variety of exercises that focus on strengthening and stretching the muscles, joint mobility and core control. The Pilates Reformer compliments Pilates mat classes by incorporating the basic principles and exercises in the workout, but challenges students with the extra resistance. Space is limited in all Reformer classes.

Pilates Reformer Classes
Intro & Essential Training
This class is designed to educate the Pilates method on the Reformer. Participants will learn the basic principles and body positions which are incorporated during a Reformer class, along with several beginning exercises. As students build upon these principals and move to Essential Pilates classes will also incorporate resistance-based equipment.
Intermediate & Advanced
This class emphasizes strength, control, balance and flexibility, introducing additional core and peripheral coordination exercises for those participants who have mastered the Essential Reformer repertoire. Instructor approval required. Advanced students will then go on to focus on increasing shoulder girdle strength and stability.
Utilize a variety of Pilates equipment; the chair, barrel, tower, reformer, etc. to fine tune the Pilates workout.
As a Stott Pilates certified instructor and trainer in mat and apparatus, she presently teaches Mixed Apparatus classes in the pilates studio on Tuesdays at 12:30 PM and Thursdays at 9:30 AM, as well as Pilates mat class in the main club. Kim has been a Stott Pilates instructor since 2007 and conducts private and group classes Monday through Saturday. She enjoys working with a diverse range of fitness levels, ages, and degrees of Pilates experience. Her clientele includes post-operative patients rehabilitating as part of a physical therapy program, competitive athletes pursuing a performance edge, and older adults seeking to enhance core strength, stability, and flexibility. Tamie is a Stott Pilates instructor trained in mat work as well as all apparatuses and has 15 years of experience teaching this form of exercise. She is qualified to work with clients with medical conditions including but not limited to orthopedic issues (pre/post surgery, in conjunction with physical therapy, post physical therapy), neurological problems and arthritis. Currently, she teaches a reformer/tower class Monday’s at 12:00 PM and Thursday’s at 1:00 PM.

A Pilates purist who is Feldenkrais trained. An effective teacher who get results. She enjoys work with all client profiles but specializes in clients with special needs, particularly clients with neurological (Parkinson’s disease, MS, TMI), musculo-skeletal, chronic pain and weight issues.
