FAQs

What is compression?

Compression therapy has been used for years as a medical treatment to assist with circulation. Compression is now being utilized by athletes of all ages and skill levels to improve training, recover faster, and enhance overall wellness. Compression therapy is based on the science of blood flow. The system creates a restorative massage by using specialized pulse technology to deliver dynamic air compression on selected body parts. The Normatec compression system also allows for customization by offering adjustable time, pressure and ZoneBoosts.

What are the benefits of compression?

Benefits can include:

  • Increased athletic performance
  • Decreased muscle soreness
  • Increased blood flow and circulation
  • Increased flexibility
  • Faster muscle recovery
  • Decreased risk of injury

Are there restrictions for use?

Compression is not recommended for individuals with any of the below conditions. If you are unsure if compression is right for you, we encourage you, prior to use, to consult with your medical provider.

  • Acute pulmonary edema
  • Acute thrombophlebitis
  • Acute congestive cardiac failure
  • Acute infections
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Episodes of pulmonary embolism
  • Wounds, lesions, or tumors at or near the site of application
  • Where increased venous and lymphatic return is undesirable

There are no age recommendations or restrictions for the use of compression. Guests under the age of 18 must have a waiver completed and signed by their parent, guardian, or sponsoring adult member (18 years of age or older).

What do I wear to my compression appointment?

During your session we encourage you to wear comfortable clothes that are dry from sweat. Socks should be worn during leg compression. If you forget a pair of socks, no worries! We have socks you can borrow. If using leg or hip compression, please wear shorts, leggings or pants.
